The writing section of the SAT/PSAT measures the student's ability to express ideas effectively in standard written English, as well as to recognize faults in usage and structure. The questions on the test are over rules of grammar that are often not taught in the regular classroom. Because of the thorough instruction we give, students in our programs generally see their greatest gains in the writing section. Our instructional materials give specific rules, explanations, and practice for the kinds of questions that will appear on the SAT/PSAT.  We address all the following areas identified by the College Board:

subject-verb agreement

verb tense

pronoun usage

modifiers

idioms

active and passive voice

misplaced and dangling participles

parallelism

coordination and subordination

double negatives

sentence structure

punctuation

In each section students are given rules for a specific concept, exercises over that concept,

and test questions in the same formats that appear on the SAT/PSAT.
